About Suhas

I am a 29-year-old International student studying the Master of Landscape Architecture program at the University of Melbourne. Born and brought up in India, I trained as an Architect and have worked in the design field for many years before moving to Australia in 2017. When I am not studying or working, I spend time working on personal art projects- drawing and creating things. I believe in compassion and ethical sustainable living and am an Atheist who respects cultural differences. I also strongly believe that respectful cohabitation on this planet is the way forward.

Through my involvement with CEH, I hope to raise awareness about the intricacies and challenges faced by people of colour, migrant groups, people from diverse cultural backgrounds etc. Especially concentrating on navigating sexuality and identity in Australia.

Moving away from a home country to a new land with no cultural or societal connections can be a daunting experience. I found that a feeling of otherness followed me around for the first few months of me being here and though I found most people to be extremely nice, a couple of homophobic and racist experiences I had got me thinking. This led me to raise awareness of these issues, hopefully making it slightly easier for others like me who might be looking at creating a home away from home in Australia
